Lawn mowers and filling car with gas on hot days?

On some hot summer days, the news reporters say that people are being urged to not use lawn mowers or fill their cars with gas. Why not? What is the reasoning behind this?

The heat as for sure but my guess would produce more gas tank on very hot day would be that filling gas fumes due to me.
The heat as for the mower it just adds pollution to me.
